Spring Flowers in Winter
A reflective poem of self-growth
Dear friends, this week I am excited to share with you a poem seemingly about nature, but surprisingly deep and reflective. My poems often find me contemplating life through a lens of nature because nature always leaves me pondering creation, humanity, wisdom, and other thought-provoking matters.
I hope you enjoy this small detour from my writings on motherhood. The truth is that motherhood encompasses so much more than sleep schedules and dinner routines. In motherhood, we are teaching tiny humans about life, truth, nature, and growth.
Enjoy this poem :)
Spring flowers in winter
They have tenacity and a little audacity
To show up before their time, to invade winter with their beauty
To announce their arrival as if to fast-forward time
Their delicate grace seems timid, shy
Yet their early arrival demonstrates intrepidity
How dare I think they are too tender to survive
The cold blasts of winter, the darkness, the bleak
Maybe they summon courage from me
Perhaps they invite me to search within
For the things that I think are too soon to be born
For the dreams, hopes, and visions that I push away until later
What is later for spring flowers that want to bloom?
Later is cowardly, is shy, is complacent
Later only excuses old habits and routines
Later pushes aside the courage to bloom
I’ll allow spring flowers to burst into bloom
In the places within that want to wait until their season
Welcoming tenacity and vivacity into being
Ideas bursting, dreams no longer, hopes lived already
Spring in January, winter is complete
The hibernation of my thoughts
And the brumation of my dreams
Suddenly over because a small flower awoke my heart
Thank you for reading. Look for those signs of spring!

Tanya, I loved this! I loved the creativity of seeing little shoots in the winter time and all the wonderful thoughts they brought. I also love when you rhymed tenacity, audacity, vivacity. So fun!
Tanya this is a beaut! What a unique observation. I am grabbing onto this, thank you!
